A new puppy can be a drastic change for both the owner and the puppy. We have a few tips to help ease the transition!!
We recommend that you purchase a small sized wire crate for your puppy to sleep in at night and while you are away at work, ect. A smaller sized kennel is recommended to help with the potty training process. We start the puppies early here at our home when they are 4 weeks old and take them outside to use the bathroom. Small puppies have small bladders. Therefore, if you are away at work during the day, you can expect accidents until they reach adulthood.
We also recommend that you purchase a chew toy and possibly stuffed animal. The puppies are used to being around one another at night and having a playmate during the day. A few nights before your puppy goes home, we try to help ease the process by keeping him or her in their own separate kennel.
As for puppy food, for the first few weeks, we start puppies on Purina Puppy Chow. After they get a little bit older, we usually change to a healthier, grain-free food such as Taste of Wild or Blue Buffalo. Please check to see what type of food they are on before you pick up your puppy. A sudden change in diet can be upsetting to the puppy and also will cause diarrhea.
Last of all, we recommend a visit with your local veterinarian within 24 hours of picking up your puppy if possible. To keep your health guarantee valid and to assure that there is nothing wrong with your new puppy and is required that you take your puppy to the vet within 2 business days. This is done to protect both the seller and the buyer. We keep our puppies up to date on all vaccinations and wormings, until they go to their new home. They will need to have their rabies vaccination, and any remaining vaccinations done with your local vet.
